2011 WCREPA SCHOLARSHIPS
At the May luncheon, the students selected to receive the WCREPA scholarships of $1,000.00 each were introduced. These
students will use their scholarships to pursue training as teachers. These awards were made possible from WCREPA's
Nellie and Lake Lytton Scholarship Fund. We had many highly qualified applicants, and the following six students were the
finalists.

 

 

2011 WCREPA Scholarships

 

Mike is the son of Paul and Cynthia Etzel and a graduate of Clear Spring High School. In the fall he will be attending Frostburg State University pursuing a career as a teacher of History or Social Studies. During his sophomore and junior years at Clear Spring, Mike was a member of the school's track team. He played football for four years, becoming the all-time scorer for Clear Spring. His senior year he ranked fifth in the state in rushing yards. He hopes to play football for Frostburg State.
The daughter of David and Debra McGrogan, Caitlin is a graduate of Boonsboro High School. At Boonsboro High School, Caitlin was the varsity cheerleading captain for the 2010-2011 season. She also served as secretary of the National Honor Society and participated in the Future Educators of America, the Spanish Honor Society and the Links Crew. Caitlin completed over 500 student service learning hours, most of which were in the Viers Mill Elementary School in Montgomery County. Her plans are to complete a degree in elementary education at the University of Maryland, College Park, then teach in a less fortunate area or at an inner city elementary school.

A graduate of North Hagerstown High School, Sally was active as a student. She held leadership positions in the Key Club, was treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of TAM, the Teacher Academy of Maryland. Dealing with personal health issues, POTS (postural orthostatic trachycardia syndrome) and Rumination Syndrome, she has succeeded ademically and has given overtwo hundred fifty community service hours. Sally hopes to become a Pre-K Kindergarten teacher and will be attending Shepherd University. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Nancy Johnston.
Megan is a graduate of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. She is the daughter of John and Christina Duckworth. At school Megan served as vice-president of the school's chapter of the International Thespian Society and has also served as vice- president of the National Honor Society. She has used her talents in singing and acting as a participant in three different ensembles. Megan has also been active in her church as a member of the Fellowship for Christian Athletes. She will be attending Shippensburg University, pursuing a degree in education. She is looking forward to a career in teaching.

Kaelii is a graduate of Williamsport High School. She is the daughter of Rodney and Paula Kriner. During her high school years, she was captain of the girl's soccer team and served as secretary of the National Honor Society. She has volunteered for a number of community service activities. At two months of age, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and has been an active member of its Foundation. She does not let herself be defined by her illness. Instead, she says it makes her a stronger person so that she can continue with her struggle and still succeed. Kaelii will be attending Towson University studying to become an elementary school teacher.
The daughter of Joe Delosier and Dodie Pohl, Lyndsie is a graduate of Smithsburg High School. At Smithsburg High School, she was captain of the cross country and outdoor track teams. She also served as president of the Math and Latin Clubs. Lyndsie received he Faculty Advisor Award every year she was in high school. She has spent many hours tutoring students at Smithsburg elementary and middle schools. She will be attending Bridgewater College pursuing a career in elementary education.
